Wakaberry swirling on the North Coast – soon in Ballito

Wakaberry is a self-service, soft-serve frozen yoghurt brand established in Durban in May 2011. Wakaberry creates an experience where our customers, affectionately known as Wakafans, can swirl many different flavours of soft serve frozen yoghurt (98% fat free) and add a variety of toppings. For the fit and healthy we offer fresh fruit, nuts, and cereals, and for the downright wicked we have deliciously decadent desserts such as sweets, chocolates and sauces.

Through popular demand, our growing brand will now be swirling in Ballito from April 2012 at the Ballito Junction.

The founders, inspired by the growing “Froyo” industry around the world, saw an opportunity to create something new, fresh and exciting in South Africa. The name Wakaberry was born from the excitement surrounding the 2010 South African Soccer World Cup and the Shakira / Freshly Ground anthem “Waka Waka” that rocked South Africa and the rest of the world.

Wakaberry is a new concept that allows each customer to be the boss of their own creation. The affordable pricing and our pay-per-weight system means that you can have as much or as little as you like. Our customers range from friends meeting friends for a catch up, to families spending some quality time together to school kids getting a treat after a hard day at school.

The founders are born and bred Durbanites Ken, Michele and David, all agree that it is their goal to make the Wakaberry experience, one that will bring a smile to your mind, body and soul. Michele explained, “Here at Wakaberry, we believe in delivering only the best quality frozen yoghurt and toppings, at the right price, creating an authentic, fun and social experience in our stores, and always being welcoming and friendly in our service. We do honest and fair business and contribute to society by supporting the Ubuntu Youth Empowerment Project. Hence our motto, REAL YOGHURT – REAL PEOPLE – REAL FUN”.
