Temporary closure of Ballito SPAR (Not Lifestyle Spar)

We regretfully advise that, on 21 April 2020, Ballito SPAR, located near the beach in Balvista Centre, Sandra Road, Ballito, received the news that one staff member had tested positive for Covid-19.

The employee’s last day of work was 16 April 2020. The employee undertook a test on 17 April, as a result of contact tracing from another positive case. The results of the test were received today and immediate plans were put into action to close the store.

A full decontamination and sanitisation of the store will take place, while store management will be working closely with the Health Department to ensure the correct protocol is followed with regard to the identification, self-isolation and testing of other staff members. At this stage, no other staff members are reporting any symptoms.

“The health and safety of customers, staff and the community remain the highest priority at Ballito SPAR and we are taking the appropriate, swift action to contain the spread of the virus,” said Paul Rencken, owner of Ballito SPAR. “The store has been diligent in implementing measures to limit the risk of Covid-19 transmission during the lockdown period, including daily temperature checks, social distancing, the use of masks and hand sanitiser, deep cleaning and perspex sheet protection at tills. We take our role as an essential service provider seriously and will continue to go the extra mile to keep our staff and customers safe.”

Rencken also pointed out that Lifestyle SUPERSPAR is in no way affected by this situation. “Although they belong to the same group, the two stores employ completely separate and independent staff complements. In fact, along with other robust protocols, Lifestyle SUPERSPAR are running on a split-shift basis in order to mitigate risk and will continue to trade as normal, 7am – 6pm daily, during lockdown.”

The store management will advise the public accordingly when Ballito SPAR will reopen for business.
