|For the first time ever, FabMags decided to host a Christmas table and invite a few special people from the community to sit around it. What we really wanted was a real Christmas experience, so Justin and I spoke to our good friends, Jackie and Owen Williams, from HOTEL IZULU and asked them if they would “do”Christmas table for us. Jackie loves cooking, loves entertaining people and, in her book, a party is always a good thing! There was an immediate “Yes!” from her to open her home to The Ballito and friends.|
We are very blessed in our small community to be able to come up with an idea and have businesses support it the way that they do. We spoke to Tessa and Samantha from the LIFESTYLE CENTRE, who immediately came on board. Samantha then recruited people from amongst the tenants who would be willing to be a small part of our Christmas lunch – we are extremely grateful! With the assistance of Spar, who eagerly accepted the challenge, we decided on a FAB-U-LOUS African Christmas menu. Thank you so much, Seelan and the SPAR team – thanks to you we had the most amazing meal! Another important contributor was TOPS because, when you are at a function at the Williams’ home, festive drinks are hugely significant, so thank you to Lorraine and her team. Everyone really enjoyed the various wines and oohed and aahed at each stage of the dinner…
A huge thank you must also go to the amazing Chantelle from ETIQUETTE, who brought two waiters to serve our guests and make sure that the afternoon went off without a hitch, with the drinks, food and clean-up moving at the perfect pace. Chantelle even went so far as to carve the turkey! We were very blessed that O LA LA came on board with table decor and gifts for our goodie bags. ORIGINS gave us the most beautiful handmade silver and red stars. CRANBERRIES supplied the Ballito Beach Father Christmas… we just love him in his hammock! Thank you, too, to CNA for the Christmas crackers and the Lifestyle Centre management for the Lifestyle goodie bags, candy canes and chocolates. Olivia from SOLO chocolates also added slabs of various delicious chocolates to the goodie bags.
Around the table there was a varied bunch of locals, including Marc Forrest, our regular gadget guru, Olivia and Wim from Palm Lakes Estate, with whom we do a lot of work, Joanne from Fairmont Zimbali, Schane from O La La, Jenni Rivett, who is another trusty contributor to our magazine, and her hubby Freddie Seward, and, of course, our awesome hosts, Jackie and Owen, as well as some of the staff from the FabMags team.
We started with Salmon and capers triangles with JC Le roux sparkling wine
Turkey with all the trimmings, stuffing, pork sausages, roast potatoes, the yummiest brussel sprouts, butternut and roast meat gravy, this was enjoyed with red and white wine from Diemersfontein
For dessert we had traditional Christmas pudding, cream and minced pies, served with Delheim dessert wine
We ended with Cheese and biscuits, grapes, Lindt chocolates and port
