Reebok celebrates 2014 event ‘Pretoria Throwdown’ success

Reebok and the CrossFit Community celebrated another successful Pretoria event, The Pretoria Throwdown on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April at Menlyn Park Events Arena, which saw over 350 fitness enthusiasts battle it out in a male or female doubles team challenge for the championship title and R25, 000.00 winner-takes-all prize money for both teams.

This years Pretoria Throwdown saw some of the fittest CrossFit and fitness enthusiasts from all around the South African fitness community come together to measure their fitness against each other in a massive 2 day all out competition. The Pretoria Throwdown, proudly sponsored by Reebok promised to be the major fitness event in Pretoria, and they definitely kept this promise. This years event saw competitors conquer 6 gruelling work outs, including a knockout styled semi final and grand final. Jacaranda Fm Dj’s Janina Oberholzer and Robbie Kruse kept the massive crowd of over 20 000 entertained, as Reebok took Fitness to the People.

Winning the Men’s category was Team “Lilo and Stitch” from Pretoria Box, CrossFit PBM and winning the Ladies category was Team Double Platinum from  Johannesburg box, CrossFit Double Platinum, with both winning teams walking away with total of R25 000 each.

Team Walker and Texas Ranger from Pretoria Box, CrossFit LCE took 2nd place and R3000 worth of Reebok Vouchers with Fran-kenstein from CrossFit Double Platinum walking away with R1000 in Reebok Vouchers in 3rd place. In the Ladies category, CrossFit Double Platinum took 2nd and CrossFit Wonderboom took 3rd

“Like the internationally renowned Reebok CrossFit Games seen on ESPN, spectators got the opportunity to watch the fittest in Pretoria compete for the championship title at Menlyn Park Events Arena on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April,” confirms Gareth Harrington, Reebok Fitness Manager

“The competition delivered two days of constantly varied, high intensity movements under heavy loads. The athletes were pushed to their limits and only one team from the mens and ladies teams were named the 2014 Pretoria Throwdown Champions. It wasn’t all hard work and no play! Spectators got to compete in hand stalk walks and pull up competitions for spot prizes,” explains Harrington.

The Pretoria Throwdown competition is the second of five mega Reebok fitness events planned for the coming year in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, and was without a doubt one of the biggest fitness events of 2014. “We have a very exciting year ahead, and Pretoria Throwdown was only just the beginning,as the athletes now start to focus on The Regionals at Coca Cola Dome from the 31st of May-1st of June to crown the Fittest in Africa. ” concludes Harrington.
