Canon SA hosted over 6000 visitors at its third annual Canon SA Expo, which took place at the Sandton Convention Centre from the 29th of November to the 1st of December 2013.
Thousands of visitors took the opportunity again this year to see and test-out Canon’s wide range of consumer imaging and business solutions products, including: large format printers; office printers; copiers; scanners; faxes; and photographic equipment. A highlight of this year’s event was the introduction of interactive product stations, which physically showcased the full input through to output functionality of selected Canon products. This gave expo visitors a chance to experience the ease-of-use and vast functionality of the products, from the initiation to completion of a job. Also for the first time this year, Canon had the imagePRESS (Colour digital press), Arizona (Large Format flatbed) and imageRUNNER range of products on display.
Another first was the social media section where Canon fans could chat to the company’s dedicated social media coordinator about staying connected with the brand. Throughout the expo, screens showed live Twitter feeds from people at the event.
Due to popular demand, there were two speaker sessions running concurrently each day of the expo. Aspiring photographers were enthralled by the interactive presentations by Canon experts and well-known South African photographers. Visitors also valued the workshop sessions presented daily which offered hands-on guidance and included topics such as DSC and Wi-Fi, Aperture, Getting the most out of your DSC, Setting up wi-fi on your Pixma, Pro video, Workflow in DPP, Photobooks, Printing apps, High Dynamic Range and Auto Focus.
“We are thrilled at the turnout for this year’s Canon Expo. The calibre of visitors this year was impressive and we found that the majority of our guests came for a specific purpose, whether it was to purchase products, attend the workshops or get advice.
“Ultimately, we see our expo as a meaningful, interactive platform for people who want to purchase or already use our products and are as passionate about imaging as we are. We believe that everyone who came to the expo found it to be a knowledge-enriching experience,” says Canon SA’s Marketing Manager, Michelle Janse van Vuuren.
According to her, visitors also enjoyed perusing the Gallery where Canon had put on display the top forty entries in this year’s Canon Photo Competition. The public voting closed on 1 December. All four category winners will be informed on or after 15 January by e-mail and will receive their prize, which consists of a Canon EOS 6D with a 24-105mm f/4L IS lens, by no later than 31 January 2014.
The voters’ competition winner will also be informed by e-mail after 15 January 2014 and will receive the very popular Canon EOS M camera with a 18-55mm IS STM lens and a Speedlite 90EX flash as their prize.
“We were very happy with the quality of entries for our photo competition and also offered visitors the opportunity to purchase glossy books at the expo event, featuring the top 10 finalists in each category of the competition,” concludes Janse van Vuuren. The proceeds from these books will be donated to the South African Disabled Golf Associations (SADGA) in the coming weeks. The books were printed, laminated and bound at the Expo which also served to showcase the high-end functionality of Canon’s photo printers.
