Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am a very happy-go-lucky girl who has inherited a love for beautiful things from my mom. I try to find beauty in everything and always work towards ‘being the change I want to see’ – it’s a work in progress.
How long have you been a photographer?
I’ve always had an interest in photography and started doing it professionally about a year ago.
What or who got you started in photography and did you study?
It was some gentle prodding from family and friends to explore photography that initially got me started and I would love to go on some proper courses, but I haven’t got around to it yet – I’ve always learnt better in the field rather than in a classroom. If I get stuck, I have some great photography contacts who I can turn to for advice and that has served me well so far – as with most things, the learning never ends!
What gives you ideas or inspires you to create your imagery?
My biggest inspiration is the beauty I see around me every day and, living in KZN, I am surrounded by beauty. If I come up short on ideas, I “follow” some of the best photographers around – seeing their pictures come up in my news feed always makes me feel inspired.
How would you describe your style?
I do enjoy doing “staged” photo shoots, but my passion is for natural lifestyle photography I love to simply capture moments, whether it is a family day at the beach, a high tea, a lunch, or just an afternoon at home. I don’t think anything beats natural lifestyle photography!
What type of cameras do you shoot with?
Most recently I have been using a Canon 7D.
Why did you choose to specialise in this particular genre?
It is the genre that gives me the most work-satisfaction. I love all genres of photography and in my free time I try and explore other genres, but so far lifestyle photography is the one I enjoy the most.
How important is Photoshop in your final images?
Photoshop is very important but I use Lightroom a lot more than Photoshop.
Who is your idol in the industry and how has he helped shape your photographic style?
I haven’t managed to settle for one role model yet. There are so many photographers who are just brilliant and they’ve each got their own style and I can’t decide on any one favourite style.
Destination you’ve always wanted to shoot at?
I am in love with Paris. I don’t have a specific location in Paris (obviously the Eiffel Tower features somewhere) but there’s something magical about the city and it has so many amazing locations.
Describe the ideal conditions that help to get a great shot?
It’s all about attitude. Nothing speaks louder than attitude when it comes to photography and if someone is feeling uncomfortable in any way, it shows in the pictures.
