In a departure from our usual interview with a local businessperson, this month we profile and pay tribute to three people in Ballito who, we believe, have stood out and made a difference in the past year. All three of our profiled stars exude their own sort of magic and energy, which at this time of the year is synonymous with the Christmas spirit and the joys of the festive season.

What does your daily job entail?
I’m proud to say that I work for the iLembe Chamber. My job description is vast and includes member liaison, assisting with co-ordinating events, forums and projects, admin duties etc.
What has been your greatest achievement this year?
Excelling at all my goals, studying part-time, attending events, running projects and fundraising for charity! I think that it’s an amazing achievement to be a productive and busy person. I am a fighter and I will never quench a flame before the fire has burnt out.
What are you passionate about?
My boundless faith in God. My loved ones. I have many passions about life, love, learning, goals, aspirations, my pets, health, talent, beauty and hope. My heart goes into everything that I do and say.
Best advice you’ve ever been given?
When I fall asleep at night to know that I will be able to live with my choices, be proud of my actions, share them with God and know that I’ve done my best, no matter what the circumstances. This was given to me by my mom, she has given me an appreciation for the little beauties of life.
What does your community mean to you and in what way do you give back to it?
I love Ballito! I love how, from the poorest to the richest, I have discovered warm, supportive, phenomenal people who uplift, encourage and inspire. I am actively involved in numerous fundraising initiatives, this year I donated to the Rotary Club Zimbali, the Feral Feline Fund and also to gifts for social workers. My work at the iLembe Chamber also has a direct impact on our community.
What inspires you?
Survivors! From surviving the most complicated battles like cancer, poverty, loss, sickness and pain, to surviving inner battles and contending with Life itself. Life is tough and it’s the people that survive with grace, do good and fight for what is right that inspire me.
How do you unwind in this amazing place called Ballito?
Walking along the beach, feeling the sand between my toes! Cinnamon and Silk’s marshmallow fudge latte is a must-stop with my mom on a Sunday after church; and also relaxing at La Montagne.
