Ashton’s hockey girls caused a stir at the Spar Hockey Tournament held in Durban on Sunday, by lifting the coveted trophy.
The team played with heart, spirit and courage, defeating Durban Girls College, Northlands, and Port Natal, and drew against Danville and Our Lady of Fatima. An elated group of girls with coach Mrs Juanel Schulze and assistant coach, Mrs Reinette Franck received the trophy at the presentation, and will now play against the winners of the various regions on 21 July. “It has been an exceptional experience for these girls, and I am very proud of their achievement. Many of these girls are only in Form 2 and 3, and this is testimony of the depth of sport at Ashton,” said Mr Joe Erasmus, Executive Head. “My warmest congratulations to Mrs Schulze for her dedication and commitment to this team,” he added.
“The team played extraordinarily well, and I would like to thank Mrs Yolande Jansen van Vuuren from BP Ballito for lunch supplied to the girls, and then to Spar and the organisers for a magnificent day. We are looking forward to the tournament in July, and I am positive this team will prove that they were worthy winners,” said Mrs Schulze.
